Amy Jackson, a British-born Bollywood actress, will bring the classic DC Comics character to life for Supergirl season three, in a recurring role for an unspecified amount of episodes. While she’s a relatively unknown actor in the States, Jackson is a major name in India, where she’s become one of the country’s biggest stars. This will be her first major English-speaking role.
The Legion of Super-Heroes’s existence in Supergirl‘s reality was initially teased in the show’s first season, when viewers saw a Legion flight ring on display in Superman’s Fortress of Solitude. The teases continued following the Season 2 finale, when series star Melissa Benoist stated in an interview that the Legion Ring would make its return at some point. Additionally, Mon-El — a character frequently associated in DC Comics with the Legion of Super-Heroes — became a major part of the show as of season two, as played by Chris Wood.
Saturn Girl’s official character description reads:
Saturn Girl, aka Imra Ardeen, is a kind, smart, and strong-willed hero who uses her telekinetic ability to help those in need. She was born on Titan, one of Saturn’s moons, and arrives on Earth to help Supergirl battle one of her biggest threats.
In the comics, not only does Supergirl travel to the 31st Century where she meets and becomes a member of the Legion of Super-Heroes, it’s also where the character strikes up the defining romance of her life with fellow Legionnaire Brainac-5, a descendant of Superman’s foe.
