Oh my oh my there has been HUGE HUGE news coming out of TCA2016 tour. TCA (Television Critics Association Summer tour) represents more than 200 professional journalists who cover television for publications across the United States and Canada. Here’s the latest news from there and it’s HUGE!
We had the cast jokingly sing their way through Season 1 on TV Line Interview (see here) but now it’s the real deal! It was confirmed today that there will be a REAL musical on Supergirl! Variety reports the following:
“The Flash” and “Supergirl” will channel their cast members’ real life superpowers — their singing talents — for two musical crossover episodes in the back half of the season, around episode 13 or 14,
That crossover is not to be confused with the epic four-show crossover that will take place between “The Flash,” “Supergirl,” “Arrow” and “Legends” in November, executive producer Greg Berlanti noted. With stars Grant Gustin and Melissa Benoist both alums of “Glee,” and a number of other cast members having done stints on Broadway, the musical episodes seemed like a no brainer for the producers, and will use “mostly pre-exisiting” songs, although Berlanti said the writers hope to pen at least one original song for each episode.
“When they’re not acting or flying or punching or exploding things, they’re singing,” Ali Adler said of Benoist and Gustin, having worked with both stars on “Glee.”
“Some of you may know my personal love for musicals, and we have a number of people who can sing across all the shows,” Berlanti noted, with the producers citing John Barrowman, Victor Garber, Jesse L. Martin and Jeremy Jordan as being especially excited about the crossover.
New Characters / Actors
We knew about Chris Wood would be playing the person in the pod which appeared at the end of Season 1 Episode 20 but we didn’t know WHO or WHAT it was. Now we know!
Chris Wood will be playing Kryptonian Mon-El.
“Supergirl” will introduce Sharon Leal as Miss Martian this season
4 Way Crossover!
The 4 show crossover will happen in November! epic four-show crossover that will take place between “The Flash,” “Supergirl,” “Arrow” and “Legends”
Gay Character on Supergirl?
This is interesting – wonder who it is…let the speculation begin! The character and the show have not been mentioned just that this will happen.
The CW will introduce a gay character on one of the network’s superhero shows this upcoming season. Greg Berlanti and the executive producers of “Arrow,” “The Flash,” “Supergirl” and “DC’s Legends of Tomorrow” made the announcement on Thursday at the Television Critics Association press tour in Beverly Hills, Calif. “One of the characters will be exploring their sexuality and coming out,” exec producer Andrew Kreisberg announced during the mega-superhero panel.“It is a significant character,” Berlanti said. “We’re not trying to be coy about it…we just really want the audience to enjoy the character development and not be ahead of the storyline.”
