With the Season 2 date coming up fast (not fast enough), we are getting some pretty cool photos coming from photographers who are out and about while Supergirl is filming in Vancouver. As we all know by now, Superman is going to appear in the first two episodes of Season 2.
Brief recap from Season 1 Episode 20: After myriad had been deactivated and the gang are celebrating, a mysterious pod plonks down and…and we don’t know who it is or what it is. End of Season 1.
Cue Season 2 Episode 1 (October 10, 2016) and we may find out what or who is in that pod. It looks Kara is going to need backup in the form of her cousin Superman AND Madam President played by the legendary Lynda Carter. All find and good or maybe not good considering Superman and
Wonder Woman Madam President is going to be featured in a few episodes.
Who is in the pod? Hm. We don’t know. Who is playing the thing in the pod? I would love it to be Kara’s mother Alura. I want to see Laura Benanti again. We know it’s not going to be a woman. How? Well we know the actor’s name but we don’t know the what/who/it. It was announced at the San Diego Comic Con that the actor is Chris Wood.
Over at Cinema Blend they had this to say (and it sounds pretty cool)
The most popular theory so far seems to be that Chris Wood will be playing some kind of Superman-esque character. One such opinion is that he will be playing Superboy. In the comics, Superboy a clone of Superman (who will also be making his debut on the show this season) and Lex Luthor. That’s a pretty big departure, and the show might not be equipped to handle that particular character just yet.
Another theory that has been growing since the reveal of Wood’s casting is that he will be playing a character called Mon-El. He’s a Daxamite, an alien race that gains powers on Earth in the exact same way that Kryptonians do to the point where they might as well just be from the same planet. The big difference is that he’s weak to lead instead of Kryptonite. Sometimes known as Valor, Mon-El wears an inverted costume copy of Superman, so right now he seems like the most likely choice for “Pod Guy.”
Given that the folks at the CW weren’t willing to reveal the character’s name at Comic-Con, it seems unlikely we’ll learn much more before the show premieres. It’s highly possible that they want fans to first witness the revelation during the premiere, thus drawing any viewers who weren’t already curious about the move to the CW. We’ll finally know the answer to all those burning questions later this fall whenSupergirl premieres on Monday, October 10 on the CW.
Entertainment Weekly had an interview with Andrew Kreisberg about the pod:
ENTERTAINMENT WEEKLY: Let’s start off with the reveal that someone else has landed on Earth. What can you tease of who this is? Are they friend or foe?
ANDREW KREISBERG: Obviously it’s our big cliffhanger of the season, so I’m not fully inclined to let everyone know who shot J.R. It’s an important character, and they’ll play an important role in season 2.
Is this a character we may have seen in the comics before?
Again, I don’t want to give too much away, but it’ll be cool. The fans are going to be excited. It’s going to definitely shake things up for season 2.
